Working with content

At the heart of KEP the basic information element resides, the Knowledge Entity (KE). KE is a powerful and versatile placeholder for content provided to KEP users. The final version of KEP has extended the initial usage of KEs in order to describe in more detail the different assets of ship dismantling. More specifically, a KE can exist in 3 different types: DIVEST documents, Official Documents and Public Documents. A KE can be one of the above types of documents, but all of them contain a set of common attributes. These attributes are described below:

  • Category: A mandatory field that is used to classify a KE. A KE can belong in several pre-defined categories, but at least one category must be selected. The list of the available categories is the following:
    • General
    • Health
    • Safety
    • Environment
    • Quality
    • Law
    • Value
  • Title: A mandatory field, used to describe briefly the subject of the KE.
  • Keywords: An optional, comma separated list of words, arbitrarily entered by the author. Keywords are used to support the creation of automatic, user-generated categories, also known as folksonomies.
  • Body: An optional text field. Although optional, it is one of the two fields used to store the actual content of the knowledge entity. If content is an attached file, body can be used to provide a brief description of the attached file.
  • Attachment: An optional field to upload one or more files. The total size of file(s) allowed to be uploaded is limited to 10MB and can be any popular file format (jpg, jpeg, gif, png, txt, doc, xls, pdf, ppt, pps, odt, ods, odp).
  • Location: An optional field that is used to define a geographical region that the KE refers to. It can be used to define a broader geographical region than a country (see field below).
  • Country: If a KE refers to a specific country, this optional field should contain the corresponding value.
  • Creation date: Mandatory, system created attribute. This field is automatically created every time a KE is created.
  • Modification date: Mandatory, system created and maintained attribute. Every time a KE is updated, this field contains the last modified date.
  • Author: Mandatory, system created field that points to the author of the KE.
